Dickson Electric is Hiring a Part-Time Dispatcher Near Dickson, TN

Part-Time Dispatcher is scheduled to work two-eight shifts every other weekend. The Individual applying must be able to work 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM shift and work weekends and holidays. Other opportunities for additional hours maybe available. Dental, Vision and Life Insurance benefits are offered.

PURPOSE:The purpose of the Part-Time Dispatcher is to answer customer calls during after-hours in a professional and businesslike manner, take appropriate action in response to the calls, maintain security of the building and promote good relations with DES customers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Answer phone calls outside of DES regular business hours in a professional, businesslike manner and communicate with customer what action will be taken.
  2. Gather specific information from customer as to location and type of problem.
  3. Respond to customer calls of outages by alerting stand by crew and relaying adequate information about the type of problem.
  4. Stay in radio contact with responding crew.
  5. Must be able to work 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM shift every other Saturday and Sunday as well as well as holidays.
  6. In emergency cases or major outage situations, contact Business Office Manager to arrange for adequate personnel to come in to handle calls and/or also contact Construction Superintendent and/or General Manager.
  7. Assist customers with simple billing questions if possible. If unable to answer question, advise customer to call during regular business hours.
  8. Check drop box for payments and confirm adequate payment, then do re-connections for customers who were cut off for non-payment.
  9. Ensure building and all maintenance areas are secure during the night and advise Business Office Manager the next morning of any routine security problems.
  10. If security of the building or maintenance areas is threatened during the night, call appropriate authorities immediately and General Manager.
  11. Other duties as assigned.

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Process mail /drop on weekends and have it ready for Bookkeeping on Mondays.

2. Help Residential Energy Advisor when needed.

3. Help on switchboard as needed and cover for sickness or vacation as needed.

EDUCATION/:
High School Diploma/ GED required with one (1) to two (2) years’ experience in dispatching or an office environment; or any equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties.

SPECIAL SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  1. Thorough computer knowledge and ability to learn DES systems.
  2.  Ability to effectively communicate with customers, other employees of DES and the general public in a professional businesslike manner.
  3. Must be able to work afternoon and night hours, weekends and holidays.
  4. Must have the highest degree of integrity, honesty, pleasant disposition, dependability and tact, and must treat all DES employees with dignity and respect. Must be able to maintain composure during difficult situations to discuss and resolve issues and maintain open communications to achieve DES goals and objectives.
  5. Must believe in, be sympathetic with, be interested in furthering the public understanding and acceptance of the utility’s objective and be customer service oriented at all times.
  6. Must be willing to work with all employees in the best interest of the utility and to accept changes in work programs and patterns to keep pace with changing times.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATIONS:
1. Must possess at the time of employment a valid Class D Driver License allowing legal operation of a
motor vehicle in Tennessee. Maintaining the Class D or equivalent license is a continuing condition of
employment.

2. Must maintain at the time of employment or obtain at a time designated by DES, a valid certification
of proficiency in adult CPR, first aid, and AED.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Able to work 8 hour shifts or longer if emergency situations require.
  • Must possess visual acuity and manual dexterity as well as the ability to listen and communicate orally.
  • Able to lift up to 20 pounds while working with breakers, small transformers, capacitors and assorted material and be on call for after-hours work.
